Capriccio for horn and piano

by Ivar Lunde, Jr.

The Capriccio was written in 1988 as an attempt to create a short but powerful recital piece for the horn. A careful listener will appreciate the occasional quotes from the horn literature in the solo part.

Although the technical demands are great, the intertwining Wagnerian and Straussian motives create a somewhat tongue-in-cheek listening experience for the initiated horn enthusiast. Written in the standard two parts common to so many earlier works of similar nature, the piece builds in both speed and complexity to an exciting climax at the end.
