Rondo for oboe and piano
by Steven L. Rosenhaus
The Rondo for oboe and piano (1984) was written on a commission by Mr. Frank P. Wendt, through the New York Philharmonic for its principal oboist, Joseph Robinson. Mr. Robinson gave the first performance, with pianist Jonathan Feldman (also of the New York Philharmonic), over WQXR-FM. The Rondo is traditional in most respects. No extended techniques are called for, either for the oboist or the pianist. The work is aurally tonal, although no key signatures are used.
Rondo was completed in New York City on February 8, 1984 and was revised in February the same year.
