Dancing Images

for violin, cello and piano

by Ivar Lunde, Jr.

Dancing Images was completed during January 1995. The four-movement work places much emphasis on rhythmic relationships between the various instrumental parts and the development of short melodic motifs. The tonal language is free. Reference to well-known dance patterns, both formal and less formal in character is frequent. In the second movement the violin carries passages that remind the listener of the Hardanger fiddle, a Norwegian folk instrument with eight strings, fourof which serve as drones.
