Nine Sketches for piano solo

by Ivar Lunde, Jr., Opus 110

Nine Sketches was written in 1976. The language is atonal but deeply rooted in tonal relationships. Each of the sketches explore different timberal colors of the piano. The music might even contain programmatic effects, from dreamlike sonorities of the 2nd Sketch and the 8th Sketch to fiddle tuning in the 7th Sketch and calamity expressed in the devilish last movement: the 9th Sketch. The work was written for my mother, Karen Henninge Lunde, pianist and teacher, for her 75th birthday.
