Sonatina II for Harpsichord solo

by Asako Hirabayashi (2003)

The piece was written in the summer of 2003, and exists in two versions. One version is for solo harpsichord, which won the Aliénor International Harpsichord Composition Competition. Another version is for violin and harpsichord and is dedicated to the duo Libero (Yuko Heberlein & Asako Hirabayashi). The piece is idiomatic for harpsichord, inspired by Romanticism, Impressionism, and Neo-Classicism and incorporating polytonality. It also has Japanese sonority that imitates the sounds of the Koto (Japanese plucking string instrument).
